Program Management Responsibilities

Implements Louisiana Schools for the Deaf and Visually Impaired (LSDVI) instructional philosophy, program, and curricula when providing outreach services to children and their families.
Exhibits knowledge of special education rules and regulations associated with implementation of state and federal laws.
Exhibits understanding of children with disabilities and their needs, especially the Deaf and hard of hearing children served by the school.
Demonstrates awareness of specialists, agencies, and organizations that serve children with disabilities, especially Deaf and hard of hearing children, and their families.
Demonstrates appropriate and effective office management skills such as planning, organizing and implementing.
Exercises good judgment in making decisions.
Maintains accurate records of contacts, instructional strategies implemented, current calendar of appointments, expense account forms, inventory records and student records; exercises confidentiality of information in accordance with requirements of the law.
Applies knowledge and skills of program supervision demonstrating appropriate and effective interpersonal skills.
Maintains a positive relationship with professional associates, the community, the parents of the students and state and local agencies.

Programmatic Responsibilities

Travels throughout Louisiana to provide outreach services to children and their families.
Travels to SSD Baton Rouge campus on annually identified dates to assist with instruction and student activities as directed by the supervisor.
Administer prescribed pre and post tests to evaluate the student progress.
Provides input for decisions regarding placement of children in appropriate educational programs.
Uses designated curricula and materials in the teaching/learning process in a variety of approaches and techniques which develop lesson objectives and meet child and family needs.
Prepares and utilizes appropriate materials to meet specific needs of the child and the family.
Develop weekly lesson plans for child ages 0 – 5 for supervisory review.
Specifies learner outcomes in clear, concise objectives; includes activities that develop objectives; identifies materials needed for lessons; and states method(s) of evaluation.

Demonstrates effective expressive and receptive sign language skills.
Performs other duties as assigned.


Louisiana Teacher certification as set forth in Louisiana Standards for State Certification of School Personnel (Bulletin 746) including the Hearing Impaired/Deaf Education, Early Childhood or Special Education endorsement(s). Possession and presentation of Conference of Executives of American School for the Deaf/Council on Education of the Deaf (CEASD/CED) certification will satisfy the Louisiana requirement for Hearing Impaired/Deaf Education endorsement or the ability to obtain this certification within three (3) year of hire date.
Must possess, or be willing to acquire, knowledge of and ability to apply current standards-based educational practices associated with children who are Deaf or hard of hearing to a variety of settings.
Must possess a current Driver’s License and the ability to be certified through the State Driver Safety Program.
Must have access to reliable transportation to retrieve/return state vehicles and/or rental vehicles in order to perform job duties.
Must have access to personal telephone services at home. Frequent travel greater than 100 miles/day is required.
