Job Summary:

The law firm of eAccidents, APC is seeking a paralegal.

Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Assist trial team from the filing of complaint through trial
  • Prepare trial binders and exhibits
  • Organize exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices
  • Propound and respond to written discovery (most significant part of the job)
  • Maintain pleadings and discovery indexes
  • Monitor discovery due dates and court orders
  • Notice depositions and other hearings
  • Coordinate with and prepare client and other witnesses for depositions
  • Summarize deposition transcripts
  • Calendar deadlines in state and appellate courts and monitor case dockets
  • Manage attorney’s calendar and calendar all related litigation dates (i.e. hearings, depositions, mediations, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate records of all due dates throughout file process
  • Oversee and manage approximately 50 to 75 litigation matters
  • Prepare legal documents for service on appropriate counsel and parties
  • Assist in gathering documents and evidence from the client throughout the discovery phase and course of litigation
  • Ensure that all court appearances are covered either by the assigned attorney, court call or a covering attorney
  • Prepare, coordinate, review, and schedule depositions, mediations, and hearings including coordinating with the client
  • Communicate with medical and legal experts throughout litigation to assist in maintaining and coordinating expert deposition documents and availability
  • Perform legal research and writing
  • Draft pleadings, motions, memoranda, oppositions, replies, complaints and appellate documents and filing them with the court

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Paralegal: 3 years (Required)
  • Litigation: 3 years (Required)
  • Articulate, organized and a team player with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to negotiate, problem solve, and think out of the box
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented and a self-starter
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage workload with a positive attitude and minimal supervision
  • Pre-litigation experience: 2 years (Preferred)
  • Type at least 60 WPM (Preferred)
  • Court Filings: 1 year (Preferred)
  • Bachelor’s Degree (Preferred)
  • CA B&P Code 6450 Paralegal Certificate (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of Ca. Civil Procedure and Local Court Rules (Required)
  • Discovery: 2 years (Required)
  • Legal research: 2 years (Required)
  • Legal drafting: 2 years (Required)
  • Microsoft Office/Adobe Acrobat: 3 years (Required)
  • Personal Injury: 2 years (Required)
Additional Notes:
This office will be building a practice to serve the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community. The lead attorney is proficient, near native ASL hearing signer and RID certified interpreter.
