Job Summary:

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant at DSPA manages key functions of AP and AR to ensure all vendors and interpreters are paid in a timely manner, and that customers are billed accurately.


  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities Accounts Payable – 35%
  • Receive vendor invoices Input non-GRACIE vendor invoices in QuickBooks (sign language instructors, international, all other expenses that we receive a non-autopay bill for)
  • Process semi-monthly vendor invoice batch in GRACIE Check vendor invoices for accuracy
  • Develop and distribute invoice due dates and pay dates Report contractor earnings via EDD for State of California Accounts Receivable – 25%
  • Create and send customer invoices Follow-up on past-due invoices GRACIE – 25%
  • Update interpreter records and link with QuickBooks Online Update item list and link with QB Update mileage rate Update customer/client records and link with QB Update holiday list Update time zones Sign Language Program – 15%
  • Send class invoices via QuickBooks as needed/requested Meet and update Sign Language Program with teacher/SLP interpreter/invoice issues


  • Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities) Fluent in ASL, with the ability to adjust communications to match the needs of the receiver. Applicants without this will not be considered Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience Excellent written communication skills Knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting Understanding of and the ability to adhere to GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles)
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software
  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization and work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Ability to solve problems and identify solutions
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent client relationships, exhibit exemplary interpersonal skills and exercise sound judgment and professionalism in business and personnel matters
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills and ability to process several tasks simultaneously
  • Preferred Qualifications Knowledge/familiarity with Google Workspace products: GMail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Hangouts/Meet Some knowledge of the interpreting field, the RID Code of Professional Conduct, and familiarity of the ADA, or willingness to learn
  • Understanding of the cultural and linguistic differences with Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing community members

Time Commitment

20 – 25 hours per week

Flexible schedule within the business hours of Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm PT
